DelBene Denounces Supreme Court’s Travel Ban Decision, Vows to Fight Back Against Ruling that Undermines Freedom of Religion

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene issued the following statement shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Trump’s travel ban directed at citizens of predominately Muslim nations.

“I am deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court’s decision. As Justice Sotomayor said in her dissent, President Trump’s ‘policy now masquerades behind a façade of national security concerns,’ when we all know that he once championed this policy as a means of discriminating openly against Muslims,” said DelBene.

She added, “I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House to fight back against President Trump’s hateful policies that do nothing to protect our national security and only serve to embolden those who wish us harm. Freedom of religion is one of our nation’s proudest values, and today’s decision undermines those values.”

Rep. DelBene has been a leader in the fight against President Trump’s mistreatment of the Muslim community. She introduced the No Religious Registry Act (H.R. 489) to ensure individuals of all faiths are protected from the establishment of a national religious registry, as President Trump proposed during the presidential campaign.
