DelBene Appointed to Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress

Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi named Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) to the bipartisan Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. The Select Committee was established at the start of the 116th Congress to find ways to improve and modernize the way Congress operates.

“Congress should be leading the way in a changing world,” said DelBene. “While the halls of Congress are rich with history, we need to make sure we’re being responsive to the needs of the American people during a time when technological advances continue to grow at a rapid pace. I’m honored to be appointed to this position by Speaker Pelosi, and plan to use my vast tech experience to help Congress innovate and deliver creative solutions to the American people. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Congresswoman DelBene is a proven tech leader and pioneer, whose deep experience as an innovator and business leader will be instrumental on this critical committee,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Her wealth of knowledge and commitment to bipartisan progress will be important assets in the Select Committee’s work to strengthen and invigorate our institution, and return the People’s House to the American People once more.”

DelBene is joined on the Select Committee by its chair, Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA), Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), and Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA).

DelBene is the former CEO of a business software company and a former Microsoft executive. She is currently Vice-Chair of the New Democrat Coalition and a member of the Ways and Means Committee. She is Co-Chair of the Women’s High Tech Caucus, the Digital Trade Caucus, and the Internet of Things Caucus.

DelBene represents Washington’s first congressional district.
