Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene toured EvergreenHealth, the health system caring for many of the COVID-19 patients, to discuss its ongoing needs as the facility manages the outbreak. “I want to thank the staff and leadership at EvergreenHealth who have been working around the clock over the past week, alongside our local public health officials, to aid people in our community,” said Congresswoman DelBene. “I will continue working to make sure the federal government is providing the support and resources medical providers, like EvergreenHealth, need to care for patients with COVID-19.” Last week, Congress passed a $8.3 billion emergency spending package to support the response to COVID-19. Congresswoman DelBene led efforts to deliver Washington state the resources it needs, including backfilling costs already incurred by the state and local public health agencies. This package will immediately provide Washington $11.5 million and includes additional funds going forward. “Congress’ emergency funding package is an important step in providing much needed resources to Washington state,” continued Congresswoman DelBene. “However, the state has other needs including expanded testing capacity, more personal protective equipment, and additional medical personnel.” On Friday, Washington state sent additional requests to the federal government to support response efforts to the virus. Congresswoman DelBene is calling for an immediate response to these needs. ### For questions or concerns about the virus, individuals should consult their health care provider, contact their local health department below, or visit the CDC’s website.
