A Week of Celebrating New Projects for Our Community

Dear friend,

It’s been a busy week celebrating historic wins in the 1st District! On Tuesday, I joined local, state, and federal leaders at the groundbreaking ceremony for Community Transit’s Swift Orange Line to discuss the impact that this new bus rapid transit (BRT) line will have on our region. Snohomish County’s population is rapidly growing, and this new line will help reduce traffic, connect our communities with additional transit services including light rail, decrease carbon emissions, and meet the growing demand for reliable public transit.

A lot of work went into this moment. Community Transit received $6.5 million from the American Rescue Plan and over $37 million from the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Small Starts program. The CIG program is eligible to receive up to $23 billion through the historic bipartisan infrastructure law, including $8 billion in guaranteed funding. I fought hard to secure these federal dollars and ensure that we can build out public transit that will serve us for years to come.
On Wednesday, we celebrated another win—a $1 million investment in Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) to build a new early learning center that will replace old portable classrooms that are well beyond their lifespan. This project will allow the college to expand access to affordable child care for LWTech staff, students, and community members.

Between the bipartisan infrastructure law, direct federal investments I secured for our community, and other federal programs, we will be breaking ground on and opening many new facilities and projects in the months and years to come.
