President Biden’s State of the Union and Your Top Priorities

Dear friend,

At this week’s State of the Union, we celebrated great strides made by President Biden and Congressional Democrats during his historic first year in office. From passing the American Rescue Plan and bipartisan infrastructure law to strengthening our economic recovery with record job creation, we have accomplished a lot.

In his address, President Biden outlined the challenges and work we have ahead as a country to address rising costs for families. As your Congresswoman, I want to hear from you. What issues are most important to you? 👇

I also wanted to share some highlights from the president’s speech that stood out to me:

Putin’s War in Ukraine

  • “Putin sought to shake the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways. But he badly miscalculated.” We must counter this unprovoked, violent invasion and stand with the Ukrainian people. The president is uniting our allies to ensure that Putin pays a devastating price for this misguided war.

Child Tax Credit

  • “Extend the Child Tax Credit, so no one has to raise a family in poverty.” I could not agree more. Nearly 800,000 Washington families were receiving monthly CTC payments from July to December last year. Since the checks stopped, nearly 3.7 million children have fallen back into poverty. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable. I will continue to work closely with President Biden to extend this benefit and make it permanent.

Affordable Health Care

  • We need to continue building on the Affordable Care Act and make health care more affordable for families. The American Rescue Plan is helping millions of families on Affordable Care Act plans save $2,400 a year on their health care premiums. Let’s close the coverage gap and make those savings permanent.”

Data Privacy

  • “It’s time to strengthen privacy protections, ban targeted advertising to children, and demand tech companies stop collecting personal data on our children.” Privacy should be a top priority in our digital world, but we need a national data privacy standard that protects all Americans.

Protecting Abortion Access

  • “If we want to go forward—not backward—we must protect access to health care.” Reproductive rights are increasingly under attack and the Senate must follow the House in passing the Women’s Health Protection Act to enshrine these protections into law.

Child Care

  • “Working families shouldn’t have to pay more than 7% of their income for care of young children.” For too many in Washington state, child care is difficult to find and when it is available, it’s too expensive for many families. While our economy is booming, the pandemic has forced parents, primarily moms, out of the workforce because child care is out of reach.

This is only scratching the surface of what needs to be done as we look ahead in the new year, and I will continue working tirelessly on your behalf to deliver for WA-01 families, workers, and communities.

As always, I am here to help you. If you need assistance during this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to leave a message at my Kirkland office at (425) 485-0085. For more updates on what I’m doing for WA-01, you can follow me on social media at the links above.
