Nearing the Finish Line on the Build Back Better Agenda

Dear friend,

After a busy week in D.C., I am encouraged that the Biden administration announced a framework on the Build Back Better Act. The blueprint incorporates transformative policies that I have championed to offer immediate support to American families and communities. Some of the key provisions include:

  • Direct monthly support of up to $300 per child to families through another year of the expanded Child Tax Credit. This is a historic tax cut for middle-class families that has already helped over 3.3 million families put food on the table for their children. The framework also makes the credit permanently fully refundable, which means the families most in need will continue to receive the full credit going forward.
  • Lowering the cost of health coverage for 9 million Americans through increased Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies.
  • Making child care more affordable by ensuring that middle-class families pay no more than 7 percent of their annual income on high-quality care. This is the largest investment in child care in U.S. history and will go a long way for Washington families, who on average pay 13 percent of their annual income on care for one child.
  • Going big on climate by making it more affordable for families to transition to clean energy at home, incentivizing green energy innovation, creating good-paying union jobs that will address climate change, and strengthening our American clean energy industry.

I am committed to getting the Build Back Better Act and the bipartisan infrastructure bill over the finish line so we can create jobs, rebuild our middle class, and invest in a strong future.
