It is more important than ever during the pandemic that Americans have access to affordable, high-quality health care but until recently coverage was still unaffordable for too many. The American Rescue Plan helped more families afford health plans by increasing the Affordable Care Act’s premium subsidies.

These subsidies helped more than 28,000 Washingtonians sign up for health care since May. Now, almost half of all Washington Healthplanfinder customers are paying less than $100 a month for coverage and over 34,000 are paying less than $1.

This is progress that shouldn’t stop with the pandemic.

As we hammer out the details of the Build Back Better Act, I am fighting to continue the success of these subsidies by extending them for as long as possible. We have more work to do to make sure that our health care system works for everyone and building on the Affordable Care Act is crucial. These subsidies are an immediate benefit that will make families healthier, save them money, and help address the pandemic.
