President Biden Includes DelBene’s Child Tax Credit and Affordable Housing Proposals in Budget Plan

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on President Biden’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal, which includes her proposals to permanently expand the Child Tax Credit and increase affordable housing across the country.

“I welcome President Biden’s budget proposal today as a blueprint that would help expand the American middle class, build on the success of Democrat’s Inflation Reduction Act that is already cutting costs for families and small businesses, and reduce our federal budget deficit by an estimated $3 trillion over the next decade. This proposal also protects Medicare for the next generation and doesn’t raise taxes on families earning less than $400,000. In contrast, House Republicans have yet to outline their plan to lower spending because they have no plan or know their proposed cuts would be deeply unpopular with the American people.

“I’m particularly encouraged that President Biden included two proposals that I’ve led and have a proven record of helping families. In one year, the expanded Child Tax Credit cut childhood poverty in half. But parents know kids don’t grow up in a year and that’s why we need to make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent, as the president calls for.

“The affordable housing crisis is hurting American budgets across the country from rural to urban communities. We need more affordable housing supply to address this issue. My bipartisan proposal in the president’s budget would help create an additional 2 million affordable homes over the next decade by expanding the successful Housing Credit.”
