Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) delivered over $250K to Homage, one of the largest senior services organizations in Snohomish County, to improve transportation services for seniors. The funds will allow Homage to purchase a new bus and expand its existing transportation assistance program into more rural areas of the county along US-2 (Snohomish to Index) and WA-522 (Monroe to Bothell). This route will serve more than 120 door-to-door trips per month in this area. DelBene secured the dedicated funding for the program in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding law. Homage’s Transportation Assistance Program supports seniors and people with disabilities so they can access essential services, including health care, employment opportunities, meal sites, shopping, schools, senior centers, and recreational activities. “Seniors make important contributions to our community, and it’s our duty to ensure they have the resources they need,” said DelBene. “This federal funding will enable Homage to expand its transportation program into rural parts of Snohomish County, ensuring seniors and people with disabilities can easily access essential services and remain an integral part of our community." “Rural and low-income populations are often left without resources to get to critical services. Yet, the needs of these communities are the same as any community. Having access to regular and reliable transportation to get to medical appointments, food banks, social gatherings, and more is invaluable,” said Keith Bell, CEO, Homage. “We are immensely grateful to Congresswoman DelBene for securing these much-needed funds, which have already made a tremendous impact in the lives of seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income residents in Snohomish, Monroe, Gold Bar, Index, and Bothell. In the first 18 days of service alone, the program has provided 98 rides and taken riders more than 2,384 miles.” DelBene secured $19.4 million for 15 community projects across Washington’s 1st Congressional District in the FY23 federal funding package. Projects came directly from non-profit, city, county, Tribal, and state entities, and all funding secured was done in collaboration with project sponsors. |
