Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a 45-day stopgap funding bill that will avert a federal government shutdown.

“After months of putting forward one extreme proposal after the other, House Republicans today finally accepted what has always been true of the government funding process: to avoid a government shutdown that would harm our economy and hardworking families across the country, they must work with Democrats.

“While House Democrats held the line and avoided a worst-case scenario, Speaker McCarthy will confront the same reality again in 45 days. House Republicans must use this time to work with Democrats and the Senate to reach a bipartisan path forward to fund the federal government for the entire fiscal year. They must abandon extreme Republican policy riders and harmful program cuts and include funding that supports Ukraine. That is the only viable path forward to get legislation through the House and the Senate and signed into law.”

The House stopgap measure is expected to be taken up immediately by the Senate ahead of today’s midnight funding deadline.
