DelBene Attends NSF Grant Workshop for Local Researchers
Bothell, WA,
April 1, 2015
BOTHELL – Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) spoke to local researchers attending a National Science Foundation (NSF) Day grant workshop at UW Bothell. The workshop included NSF program officers and focused on advising researchers on how to better compete for limited research dollars to support their projects in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. “Research and innovation are central to American competitiveness and they are the driving force of our national economy,” DelBene said. “But to remain a world leader, we need to ensure our researchers have the tools to explore new ideas and frontiers in STEM – and also the funding opportunities to do so.” DelBene invited NSF program officers to host the UW Bothell grant workshop for university faculty from across the region to ensure Washington state remains on the cutting edge of research. “As someone who started my career in scientific research, I know how painstaking and challenging the grant process can be,” DelBene said. “Scientific breakthroughs come after years of incremental research and cutting funds now could set us back for decades to come. That’s why I’ll continue to fight for innovative solutions that provide a strong return on our investment.” If Congress doesn’t act by September, another round of across-the-board cuts, known as sequestration, could go into effect and lead to thousands of unfunded research grants. ### |
