Congress needs to overcome its habit of partisan bickering and politicking. We should be working on improving the lives of each and every American. In Congress, I’m fighting to give everyone the opportunity to succeed because there are still too many Americans who can't find full-time employment and too many families who are struggling to make ends meet.
We can encourage economic growth by investing in education, research and infrastructure; equipping our workers with the skills they need to compete in the global economy; fixing our broken immigration system; and reforming the tax code to ensure fairness for working families.
Despite the dysfunction, I’ve worked across party lines to get things done – negotiating a Farm Bill that benefits Washington farmers and reduces the deficit; boosting medical research funding to save lives and create jobs; protecting Americans' electronic communications; and expanding job-training and education programs for those using nutrition assistance.
Congress needs to face our nation’s challenges head on, and I look forward to doing that with colleagues on both sides of the aisle. I also want to hear from you so I can better represent Washington’s First District. As always, my office is here to serve you.
