On Monday, Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) joined asylees, immigration lawyers and advocates to rally against the Trump administration’s orders to no longer process asylum requests for victims of domestic or gang violence. DelBene was joined by Maikol Alvarado, a recent high school graduate who came to the U.S. with his mother and three siblings from Honduras after their father was killed by gang violence. Maikol is about to start college. Another young woman sought asylum from Mexico after her husband tried to kill her and her child. DelBene declared the Trump administration’s policies “cruel, frightening, and immoral.” She then added that “this is what happens when the President calls immigrants animals.” You can view the press conference on Rep. DelBene’s Facebook page, and watch full coverage from Q13, KOMO 4, and KIRO 7. |
