Ways and Means Democrats Demand Answers from Lighthizer on Trade Talks with Canada, Mexico

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene and fellow Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee sent a letter demanding answers from the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) about how the Administration intends to fulfill the reporting and transparency procedures required under Trade Promotion Authority.

Signees of the letter to Ambassador Robert Lighthizer include Reps. Ron Kind (D-WI), Terri Sewell (D-AL), Mike Thompson (D-CA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Sandy Levin (D-MI) and Linda Sánchez (D-CA).

The letter said in part, “60 days before signature, the full text of the agreement must be made public. If you cannot reach agreement with Canada, is it your intention to publish the full text of the US-Mexico agreement 60 days before signature? If you are able to reach agreement with Canada, do you commit to releasing the full text of the agreement, including any side letters, 60 days before signature?”

The full text of the letter can be read here.
