Lies vs. Reality: Republicans Try to Rewrite History on the Child Tax Credit
KIRKLAND, WA,

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) responded to comments made by Senator J.D. Vance over the weekend trying to rewrite history on the Child Tax Credit. In a Sunday CBS Face the Nation interview, Senator J.D. Vance asserted that Republicans want to make improvements to the Child Tax Credit, which flies in the face of reality and their own voting record (if they showed up to vote). “The Child Tax Credit is one of the most pro-family policies we have at the federal level. Yet, despite all their talk, Republicans are the ones holding back efforts to build on the credit so it works for all families. They overwhelmingly opposed Democrats’ expansion of the credit that provided families with monthly checks to pay bills and cut childhood poverty in half. Faced with this life-changing data, they refused to help us extend the expanded benefit and allowed it to expire. Just this month, Senate Republicans banded together to kill modest but important improvements to the credit negotiated by members of their own party that passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. “Families are struggling right now and we have a proven solution to help them. We need to be clear about who is preventing those resources from reaching hardworking Americans.” |
