DelBene Visits Galvanize to Mark Startup Day
SEATTLE – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today visited a startup supporter, Galvanize, to discuss the economic benefits a vibrant startup ecosystem provides our communities. Startup companies in the area are creating innovative new products and services and using technology to solve real-world problems. Galvanize helps these businesses through training and counseling, and by helping to develop a pipeline of workers equipped with the skills needed for promising startups to grow.
“Washington is home to some of the most innovative startups in the country and we need to ensure public policy supports these job creators,” DelBene said. “Congress should be promoting collaboration and looking to eliminate barriers so that entrepreneurs with good ideas can succeed.”
DelBene’s visit is part of Startup Day Across America, a national, bipartisan effort to raise awareness of entrepreneurial activity and job creation that come from startups in our communities. Startup Day Across America also provides local entrepreneurs with an opportunity to educate their elected officials about the challenges they are facing and discuss how federal policy can support their efforts to test new ideas, create new products and grow their businesses.
According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, firms less than one year old created 3 million new jobs in 2015. And according to an analysis by the Kauffman Foundation, startups proved to be more resilient than mature firms during the Great Recession, creating more jobs than they lost despite the economic downturn.
