WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted against a bill that would repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and block funding for Planned Parenthood for one year.
Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted against a bill that would repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and block funding for Planned Parenthood for one year. “The continuing attacks on women’s health are not only unconscionable, but also a huge waste of time,” DelBene said. “It’s disappointing that House Republicans want to start 2016 wasting time on something we know the President will veto. Congress should be working on the demands of the American people, such as raising the federal minimum wage, lowering taxes for the middle class and making college more affordable. Instead, we’re spending more time on dangerous legislation that would dramatically restrict access to healthcare for millions of women and low-income Americans.” The House has now voted 11 times to limit women’s access to healthcare and five times to defund Planned Parenthood. Before the vote, DelBene spoke on the House floor against the measure. Video can be found HERE. More than 55 million women across the country are saving on their healthcare costs because of the contraceptive coverage provisions of the ACA. And each year, Planned Parenthood health centers provide essential healthcare, such as cancer screenings and immunizations, to 2.7 million patients. ### |
